Registration and Profiles

I have no idea what I am doing wrong but I cannot seen to get my plugins to work. I love Asgaros, I was able to set up my forums with no problem but I hate the standard profile options and the avatar system is just not user friendly.

I have literally tried all the recommendations, profilegrid, buddypress, registration magic, ultimate member, etc  and nothing seems to work without breaking my site.

Does anyone have a plugin that will allow me to customize user profiles and add private messaging? I'd love to have a custom registration page as well but that's what seems to be breaking my site. I cannot get the shortcode to pull correctly.

At this point I'm thinking of deactivating Asgaros and going with PHPbb forum I'm so frustrated.

Hey @tmcecelia,

did you also try the combination of "Toolbox for Asgaros Forum" and "Ultimate Member". If you tried it, how is it breaking your site?

It's probably just me. lol I know just enough code to make me dangerous.

I'd be happy to buy you a coffee and donate if you could help me through this, I want to learn what I am doing wrong. Everyone says Asgaros is top of the line, and I feel stupid that I cannot figure it out what I am doing wrong. 🙁

Here are the plugins I currently have enabled. I have disabled everything but my core plugins to minimize interference while we troubleshoot.

So I created my registration form, which I am also attaching, which gives me my shortcode of: [ultimatemember form_id="110"]

Now from my understanding, I create a page, and add that shortcode to it. Which I have done. I have a landing page with a simple enter button before getting to the forum. The forum is where the login/register button are. The foum has it's own page where the forum shortcode is. So I'm not sure if selecting the registration page from the UM settings is sufficient or if I need to paste code in the plugin editor.

But I have gotten this redirect error when trying to go to my landing page...

It doesn't make sense to me, because I haven't touched or manipulated anything about my landing page. The only changes I have made is creating the registration form, adding the shortcode to a new page, and linking that page name in the settings on UM.

If I deactivate UM, my landing page comes back just fine and the default WP registration button is available on the forum. It's been extremely frustrating and I just cannot figure out what I am doing to cause my site to crash.

Please help me I'm just a lost girl. lol.

Hey @tmcecelia,

did you try to clear your cookies like advised? The redirect error could be also from the basic settings of your page:

Did you change the URL of the login/register page at Toolbox for Asgaros Forum? You can find an instruction under "Custom URL":

Thank you so much for your help! I had an error on my homepage that was causing the problems. Once I got that fixed through bluehost support your toolbox worked great!!

I have my pages all working beautifully but I do have a few follow up questions.

When a member makes a post, clicking on their avatar still brings them to the old WP profile not the UM profile. I'm guessing it's a hook in the forum.php file that needs to be updated with the new UM url but I'm not positive. I'm sure this has come up before, how do you update that profile path?

My second question has to do with your new menu. I used your toolbar to override the asgaros menu but I have several custom pages as well. What it the shortcode I'd need to paste into my pages to get your new menu to appear?

I'd also really like to add PM/Friends to my forum. I hear most people use the buddypress plug-in for that. Do you know if there is a conflict between buddypress and UM? If so, do you have a PM/friend plug-in you recommend to people?

Thanks!

Hey @tmcecelia,

thank you for the coffee!

When a member makes a post, clicking on their avatar still brings them to the old WP profile not the UM profile. I'm guessing it's a hook in the forum.php file that needs to be updated with the new UM url but I'm not positive. I'm sure this has come up before, how do you update that profile path?

You have to enter the URL of UM into "Toolbox for Asgaros Forum"->"Custom URL"->"Profile URL".

My second question has to do with your new menu. I used your toolbar to override the asgaros menu but I have several custom pages as well. What it the shortcode I'd need to paste into my pages to get your new menu to appear?

You don't have to use a specific shortcode,  just use "[forum]" and make your changes in "Toolbox for Asgaros Forum". Or what do you mean with custom pages? Can you please share the URL, so I can have a look?

Did you already check the documentation:

Dokumentation für Toolbox for Asgaros Forum

I'd also really like to add PM/Friends to my forum. I hear most people use the buddypress plug-in for that. Do you know if there is a conflict between buddypress and UM? If so, do you have a PM/friend plug-in you recommend to people?

I guess the plugin for buddypress is not working with UM, but I'm not sure. You can have a look at https://wordpress.org/plugins/front-end-pm/. I know that some other users are using it with UM.

You're welcome a coffee is the least I can do lol you'll probably get another one before I'm done picking your brain.

I definitely had some kind of conflict with ultimate member. I deleted that plug-in and went with a different profile plug-in that seems to be working much better.

I fixed the profile link issue using your toolbar. You're awesome!!

Changing out of UM also solved my PM issues.

As for your menu, I'd like to have it on the profile page and members list page. Since my other plug-in controls those two pages I think I'll need to edit the plug-in directly and paste in a menu css code, but I'm not sure what code to use.

I have it setup where only members can see my forum so I'm attaching screen shots. I'd like to post the menu under my logo where the red X are so that they don't need to click my logo and go back to the main page everytime they want to leave the profile page.

Also how in the world do I change the body color of the forum? I went though the documentation and what I read doesn't seem to address this particular section. I've changed all the other colors like background, text, headers, etc but I'd like to make this black instead of white as well. Right now you cannot see some of the words because it's white on white.

Thanks!

Tat

Hey @tmcecelia,

the background color is not set by Asgaros Forum, it is using the colors of your theme. If you want my help to change that I need your URL, you can also send me an email or use the contact form at https://www.dominikrauch.de/en

For your profile page: Why don't you add a usual menu there? Or you can also add a link to go back to the forum, and the style is similar to the forum menu. If you want to have the same menu like at Asgaros Forum it would be not that easy. If you want me to do it for you, just contact me over the link above and I can tell you how much it would be.

Hi Qualmy,

Thanks for your reply, I actually figured it out since I posted that question, so I have my site finally set up right, visible, and working.

Appreciate the help, if I run into any other issues I will shoot you an email.
