Problems running Forum on two different pages with different user groups

Despite assigning users to specific user groups both forums show up on the page which is not set in General Settings.  I've tried using the category and forum shortcodes but this still happens.  Any ideas?

I guess my initial question was too vague for a response.  Here are the details.

Our site is set up with Ultimate Member, Asgaros Forum and Use-Your-Drive to access a Google Drive.  The intent was to have two private pages in addition to the public site.  Each of these pages would have two columns, one for the Forum and one for the Google Drive.  The two user groups are separate and should not have access to the other's Forum.  The initial user group and page I set up works as planned.  They only see their own Forum and Google Drive.  The second user group page displays the Forum for that group but also the forum for the first group.  The Google Drive access works as planned on both pages.

I expect there may be some conflict between the roles in Ultimate Member and the user groups in Asgaros but have been unable to figure it out.

In the Asgaros setup it only allows for one page to be selected for the forum.  I have tried to switch these but the problem stays with the user group that was set up second.  Is what I'm trying to do beyond the intent for Asgaros?

Other complications:

  • Several users are members of both groups
  • Several users are also "Editors" for the public site.

I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

I tried to set up two separate pages as well. One for moderators and one for everyone else and ran into the same issue and I don't use ultimate member. I think Asgaros is set up not to allow multiple forums on different pages.

Hey @bcavanagh,

can you please check if your User Role in Ultimate Member has the Capability "delete_users"? Every user that has this capability, will have admin rights to Asgaros Forum and will also see the categories.

Can you also give me some more information on how you set this up? Which shortcode did you use for your two different forums and did you assign usergroups to the categories?

What about this:

Other complications:

  • Several users are members of both groups
  • Several users are also "Editors" for the public site.

I don't really understand what the problem is about? Are this just some settings that you have set or do you have some problems with this?

If you ever wonder how to return the favour for helping you.

Thanks @qualmy91 for responding.  In answer to your questions:

  1.  No, the user roles I'm using for the forums do not have the delete-users WP capability.  They have edit_posts, edit_published_posts, publish_posts, edit_pages, read, edit_published_pages, publish_pages, and list_users.
  2. The setup was as follows:  I set up two roles in Ultimate Member say role1 and role2 and assigned various users to them.  In Asgaros I set up two categories say category1 and category2 and set up at least one discussion in each.  Two usergroups were set up say UG1 and UG2 which in this case matched the UM roles.  Users were assigned to each usergroup.  Two pages were created, one for each UM role and Asgaros usergroup.  Each page had two columns and were identical except that the right hand column had different content for each UM role/Forum usergroup.  Both pages use the shortcode [forum].  Page 1 was specified for the Forum location.
  3. There are several users who are members of both usergroups.  I only added this in case it was part of the problem.
  4. Several members of usergroup1 are also editors for the public part of this website.  I guess my question is whether this will automatically give them access to both usergroups even though they are only assigned to one.

When I first posted this issue the Forum seemed to work correctly for UG1 but not for UG2.  After trying a few options it stopped working properly for both categories.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Bob

@qualmy91 when I hadn't had a response for some time I had trashed everything related to role2, usergroup2 and so on.  After your response I rebuilt everything related to this role group 2 and it now works as expected.  So I must have made a mistake that I didn't notice in my initial setup despite checking many times.  Thanks for your questions which made me repeat the setup from scratch.

One more question.  Is access to the Forum totally controlled by the Forum usergroups?  Or do WP roles editor and below play a part?

Thanks again.  Bob

Hey Bob,

thank you for the coffees.

Asgaros Forum is only using the forum roles and usergroups. The only case is that every user that has the capability "delete_users" would be an admin. This is caused by the function is_super_admin() of WordPress which is necessary especially for multisite installations.

Forgot to mention you @bcavanagh
