Breadcrumbs omitting the category: Leads to uninformative and non-unique breadcrumbs

The breadcrumbs omits the category – which leads to non-unique and uninformative breadcrumbs.

Kindly take this example – you will see that for this particular structure, featuring the same forum title under different categories…

…leads to uninformative and non-unique breadcrumbs. Gameplay Help for which game? The crucial information – the category – is omitted from the breadcrumb.

Will the developers kindly consider fixing the breadcrumb to include the category? Many thanks.

(On a general note, I must commend Thomas Belser and any colleagues for such a simple and elegant plug in. 5 stars from me.)

Hello agg,

thinking about this leads to a lot of other things:

The title also has no unique category included for forums, leading to the same “problem”
When I add the category to the breadcrumbs, it will be not clickable because there is no category-view
I can include the category name directly in front of the forum (“Forum > My Category: My Forum > My Topic“) to prevent this. This would be the only nice way but it will look ugly and a little bit “bloated”

Do you have any better ideas? How about making the forum description more clear and enable the “Show description in forum” option so people know where they are?

You make all very good points.

This is a problem with forums with a repeating forum structure. The description solution doesn’t really work in my case. I could put the higher order classification into the description but it results in a lot of repetition and feels out place.

At least for me, navigation trumps everything, because the breadcrumbs are there as a compass for visitors when it’s easy to lose sight of where they are, and it’s also needed for confirmational purposes as well, so people know they navigated correctly and didn’t misclick etc.

I promise to give it some thought, but do you think that until we find a better solution, you could implement the “bloated” solution, as a toggleable option?

Awesome – thanks for the fast developer response! This is what makes a great plug-in. I’m looking forward to the update, as I don’t have the technical confidence to do a manual update myself. Again, my profound thanks and compliments!
